India will pay 2.2 billion USD for aircraft carrier

13.07.2009
India is ready to pay 2.2 billion USD for the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov, currently under reconstruction in the Sevmash yard outside Arkhangelsk.

Representatives of Russian and Indian authorities last week met in New Delhi to complete negotiations over the disputed aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov.

The Indian side in the negotiations agreed to pay a total of 2.2 billion USD for the upgraded vessel, Regnum reports with reference to Times of India.

The original price of the agreement signed in 2004 was only 617 million USD. The Russian demand for renegotiated contract terms has spurred major irritation in Delhi.

The vessel will be completed and handed over to the Indian Navy by December 2012.
