The Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center to upgrade the fifth Indian diesel electric submarine
17.09.2009 The fifth 877EKM Project Indian diesel electric submarine (DES) will be modernized at Zvezdochka shipyard in Severodvinsk. That was said by Evgeny Gladyshev, the shipyard's press service official.
As to his words, the shipyard's experts have conducted fault detection and inspection of 877EKM Project Sindurakshak DES in India, developed and accorded repair documents with the consumer. "Currently price negotiations and contract development are in progress. The signing of a contract is expected in spring, 2010. The vessel's transfer from basing site to Severodvinsk is planned in June, 2010", said Gladyshev.
The Zvezdochka shipyard, specializing on repair and utilization of nuclear submarines, has upgraded four Indian diesel electric submarines on its building cradles. The shipyard is continuing works on repair and modernization of similar submarine Sindukirti in its basing site (Visakhapatnam).
