Zvezdochka shipyard to install new missile system on Indian submarines

Four Indian diesel electric submarines are to be under modernization of weapon systems, the installation of Club-S missile systems is provided (the developer is OKB Novator design bureau).

Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center was appointed as the prime contractor of rearmament of Indian submarines, says the shipyard's press-service.

The modernization will be performed on Indian shipyards.

According to the contract signed between FSUE Rosoboronexport and Indian Navy, the new missile system will be mounted on Russian-made submarines Sinduratna, Sinduraj, Sindushastra and Sinduvir (877EKM Project).

Along with other contractors like OKB Novator, NPO Avrora and SPO Arktika, Zvezdochka shipyard will complete the work in nearest five years.

Currently, the Zvezdochka shipyard continues preparing for acceptance of INS Sindurakshak (877EKM Project) for further overhaul and modernization. The shipyard experts have conducted fault detection and inspection of the vessel and also developed and accorded repair documents with the consumer.

Price talks with the consumer and preparation of contract are presently in progress. Signing of contract is expected in spring, 2010.

The transfer of the ship from permanent basing site to Severodvinsk is planned in June, 2010.
