02.10.2009
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed Vice Premier Igor Sechin to keep watch on the work of large shipbuilding companies like Sevmash. They are to output for domestic market and properly fulfill obligations of international contracts as well, including Indian partners, underlined the head of the state.

Particularly, Sevmash "situation has been stabilized", said Sechin to the president. "Backlog of orders and acquisition of innovative technologies are being optimized; generally, the movement is positive", said Vice Premier adding that one of the prospective trends of the company is production of drilling plates.

"We should certainly develop this segment too, but not forgetting about obligations we have with foreign contractors and partners, including Indian ones. Therefore, we have to fulfill all obligations incurred and resolve all problems exist", said Medvedev meaning Sevmash's contract of upgrading missile cruiser Admiral Gorshkov for Indian Navy.

"We will undoubtedly take note of these aspects", promised Sechin.

The President asked about development of Russian shipbuilding in whole. "We are preparing report of United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) activity", said Sechin. "Integration of 37 plants and 3 shipbuilding and ship-repair centers is presently completed", he added.

Vice Premier recognized that the most problematic situation in shipbuilding industry is in Far East center. "However, USC board prepared the concept on restructuring of Far East center which provides integration of assets, creation of high-tech shipyards, increase of factories' workload, including by involvement of oil-and-gas and fishing companies", he said. "We will prepare offers including those to change legislation for development of this area", added Sechin.
