24.11.2009 According to results of summer training period, Pacific Fleet (PF) won 11 out of 17 Prizes instituted by Navy Commander-in-Chief.
Navy CIC instituted 17 special awards over summer training period; all four country's fleets were supposed to contest in various drills and exercises, says RIA PrimaMedia referring to PF Information and Public Relations Service. Eleven prizes, including for best missile, torpedo, artillery firing and minesweeping won Pacific mariners.
According to the source, summer training period which results will be summarized on Nov 26 was very eventful. Crews of combat ships, NP and diesel submarines have multiply taken the sea for training and qualification firings; three PF ships carried out cruises to the Gulf of Aden to take part in UN international anti-piracy operation.
PF mariners escorted dozens of merchant convoys from 26 countries during patrols in the Gulf of Aden. Over 110 civil vessels safely passed danger zone and reached Indian Ocean under cover of Pacific sailors. PF Command received dozens of grateful radiograms and letters from foreign and Russian shipowners and shipmasters. They thanked Russian crews for successful escorting their convoys and protection from pirates.
Pacific Fleet ships paid a number of friendly visits to Sultanate of Oman, Republic of Seychelles, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, China. Presently, the PF task unit led by Guard cruiser Varyag is returning to Vladivostok from Singapore.
