First Russian serial frigate will be built at Severnaya Verf

Domestic shipbuilding industry launches serial production of Project 22350 frigates for Russian Navy. The first such ship, Admiral Flota Kasatonov will be laid down on Nov 26 at Severnaya Verf shipyard.

Representatives of Russian Navy, administration of St. Petersburg, factories, research institutes and design bureaus related to shipbuilding will attend the ceremony, said the shipyard's spokesman to ITAR-TASS.

Lead ship of such frigates, Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov was laid down at Severnaya Verf shipyard in 2006; it is planned to be commissioned in 2011. Frigate is designed to engage in far and littoral zones as well as to perform tasks in ocean zone. Designed by OJSC North Planning and Design Bureau (St. Petersburg).

The ship's displacement is about 45,000 tonnes; length is over 130 meters; beam is more than 16 meters; operational range is over 4,000 miles; navigability without limitations. The ship has a helicopter.

Severnaya Verf shipyard presently carries out construction of three corvettes and special communication vessel, repairs large ASW ship Vice Admiral Kulakov for Russian Navy.
