Panama-flagged trawler Norta arrested by Coast Guard in the Sea of Okhotsk on suspicion of illegal fishing has been convoyed to port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski for further investigation, said Friday to RIA Novosti spokesman of Northeast branch of FSB Coast Guard.
Norta was arrested on Nov 23 in Russian exclusive economic zone at Sea of Okhotsk after attempt to escape from frontiersmen. Aircrew of FSB aircraft sent to arrest area noticed trawler's crew throwing fish products overboard. Several boxes with frozen crab limbs were picked up on board Coast Guard ship Magadanets.
"The vessel was convoyed to Avachinskaya Guba by Coast Guard ship Magadanets", said the interviewee.
The group examined arrested vessel has determined that Norta is fitted out for transportation of frozen marine products and belongs to foreign fishing company. 15 crewmembers are Russian citizens.
According to Coast Guard, the vessel was registered to sail off Japanese port Otaru. The ship has no permit for conducting fishery activities.
Case of administrative violation was initiated against the shipmaster of poacher vessel. The trawler was arrested with all fishing equipment.
