Russian-flagged tanker Saratov City was arrested in water area of Georgian port Batumi, reports Interfax.

The vessel was arrested on Apr 17, although information about that was promulgated few days later.

As reported by Georgian border police, the ship was arrested "due to marine pollution". If during investigation the crew's guilt would be proved, the case will be brought to trial.

It is uncertain how many crewmembers are on board the tanker.

Ships of Georgian Frontier Service frequently arrest foreign vessels for breaking of navigation rules and environmental pollution. Normally, a ship and complement are released after payment of a fine. In specific cases arrested ships were appropriated and sold by auction.
