Ukrainian ecologists addressed a letter to Supreme Rada [parliament] with request to furnish information about potential threat to Crimean environment by Russian Black Sea Fleet (BSF).

Leaders of ecological organizations noted in their appeal that ecology component of prolonged BSF deployment must not be ignored.

In particular, as reported by Ukrainskaya Pravda, they mentioned results of their study about Russia's BSF being the largest environmental contaminant in Sevastopol and in Crimea in general.

According to Ukrainian ecologists, BSF assets have negative impact on health status of the regional population, ecosystems and natural landscape by releasing hazardous substances in the atmosphere and hydrosphere, and generating powerful electromagnetic and ionization emission.
