Russian naval flag was hoisted at 4-generation diesel submarine St. Petersburg built by Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard for Russian Navy, reports RIA Novosti.

Lead sub of Project 677 Lada diesel electric submarine St. Petersburg has displacement of 1,765 tons; length is 67 meters; beam is 7.1 meters; max surface speed is 21 knots; max submerged speed is 10 knots; cruising radius is 650 nm; endurance is 45 days; test depth is 300 meters.

Acceptance certificate was signed on Apr 22 and on May 6 the sub was commissioned by the order of Navy Commander-in-Chief.

"In this moment a ship's combat life begins. This is a starting point of all further course tasks, combat training, patrols and deployments", said Alexander Fedotenkov, Leningrad Naval Base Commander attended the ceremony.

As for Vladimir Aleksandrov, director general of Admiralteyskie Verfi, in this year the shipyard would deliver another submarine, a tanker for Sovkomflot, and a submersible.

"Today it is obvious that the class has been started up, and the series of submarines will be constructed", said Mr. Aleksandrov not specifying amount of Project 667 Lada submarines.

Subs of this project are designed for antisubmarine and antiship warfare; defense of naval bases, seashore, and sea lanes; and also for conducting reconnaissance.
