Russian ships will take part in a new international anti-piracy convoy being formed in the Gulf of Aden. That was reported by Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Apr 12.

Pacific Fleet (PF) task unit comprises large ASW ship Marshal Shaposhnikov, ocean-going salvage tug, and tanker Pechenga. This is the fourth PF task unit dispatched to counter piracy in the Gulf of Aden. Only in 2009 three PF units were deployed in the region to escort merchant ships through piracy-risky zones.

Last week Marshal Shaposhnikov carried out successful release operation of Russian crew captured by pirates on tanker Moscow University.
