Pilots of Far East Air Force and Air Defense Unit (AFADU) conducted testing of Pacific Fleet's (PF) air defense readiness for large-scale exercise Vostok 2010, informed Tuesday RIA Novosti citing Sergei Roscha, the head of Far East AFADU press service.

Large-scale operational-strategic exercise Vostok is scheduled in summer 2010. Task forces of Far East and Siberian Military Commands, Air Force, Airborne Troops, Marine, Russian Navy's surface ships and submarines will attend the maneuvers.

"Air flight of Su-24 aircrafts performed flyover of PF radio-technical facilities. PF air defense assets detected our aircrafts at distant frontiers of detection zone. We acted as an enemy", said Roscha not specifying the date of the flight check.

According to him, the flight was conducted by skilled military pilots in complicated meteorological conditions and at low altitudes.

"So far, that has been the first check before the exercise Vostok 2010. Such tests are essential for exercise security", Roscha said.

He explained that in Oct 2000 pilots of air reconnaissance regiment carried out observation flight over the Sea of Japan and disclosed the strength of US carrier strike group led by USS Kitty Hawk. Experienced pilots managed not only to approach the carrier group being non-detected but even to fly over the deck several times at low altitudes. That happened in neutral waters nearby Russian sea border.

"To prevent such situation at the exercise Vostok 2010, we test operability of PF air defense", said the official.
