Kaliningrad to represent Russian Navy at the Royal Danish Navy's anniversary 06.08.2010

Baltic Fleet (BF) large landing ship Kaliningrad got an honorable mission which is representation of Russian Navy at celebration of the Royal Danish Navy's 500th anniversary.

Capt 1 rank Alexander Ivanovsky, BF Surface Ships Force Deputy Commander was assigned a cruise commander. On Aug 6 large landing ship Kaliningrad sailed off the fleet's main base Baltiysk. En route the BF warship will pay official call at Polish port Gdynia where she will stay till Aug 9.

On Aug 11 Kaliningrad will call at Danish capital city of Copenhagen where Baltic mariners are going to participate in festivities associated with 500th anniversary of the Royal Danish Navy. Apart from Russian servicemen, 28 European and US warships will attend the event.

The session of naval commanders' council which members are representatives of 26 European states will be held on Aug 13 in Copenhagen. Delegates from other 5 countries – Russia, Australia, Iceland, Canada, and the U.S. – will take part in the session as invitees. Russia will be represented by Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov, BF Commander.

During the visit, Russian mariners will attend cultural activities in accordance with the festive program; take part in sports events along with crews of other ships; and carry out a number of sightseeing tours around local places of interest.

In their turn, Baltic mariners will let locals and guests of Copenhagen visit Kaliningrad to get familiar with service and living conditions of Russian servicemen.

On Aug 10, 1510 Danish King Hans appointed Captain Henrik Krummedige to become "chief captain and head of all our captains". His duty was to command all vessels of Danish King. This day is considered a foundation of the Royal Danish Navy.
