Black Sea Fleet's fire brigades assisted Ukraine in firefighting 09.08.2010

Black Sea Fleet's (BSF) fire brigades accompanied by experts of Ukrainian EMERCOM took part in firefighting.

The fire occurred near Verkhnesadovoye town in hillside pinewood along the Sevastopol-Simferopol highway.

The firefighting operations was hindered by abrupt wind and the inaccessibility of the site.

When local department of Ukrainian EMERCOM call in aid to BSF command, two fire trucks and 32 firefighters were dispatched to the incident site.

Thank to joint efforts, the fire had been extinguished within two hours.

High readiness for firefighting activities in conditions of abnormal heat is the consequence of fire preventive measures conducted in the fleet.

Firefighting equipment and vehicles were checked in BSF coastal units and on ships; quayage zones and BSF infrastructure are permanently patrolled. To reduce risks of fire, dried grass and bush within the territory of BSF units was removed.

To control firefighting activities, a special operative group bas established in Black Sea Fleet; the task of the group is monitoring of fire activity level, coordinate the fleet's and municipal fire brigades while liquidation of disasters.
