Russian Navy Main HQ will move to St. Petersburg, but won't be transformed into a defense ministry's department, stated Chief of Russian General Staff Nikolai Makarov.

According to information emerged in media in Aug 2011, Russian Navy Main HQ was to be abolished and become a department within defense ministry's structure.

"General Staff works out the project implying transfer of Navy Main HQ from Moscow to St. Petersburg", Makarov said.

He emphasized that the Supreme Commander of Russian Armed Forces has not made a decision to annul the transfer.

In addition, the head of Russian General Staff specified that Navy Main HQ would not be transformed into defense ministry's department.

Talks on abolition of Navy Main HQ and its transformation into department have been lasted for a year now. Nevertheless, this information has not been officially confirmed so far.

The transfer project of Navy Main HQ to St. Petersburg has been also worked out for years, but has not been realized up to the present moment.
