SSBN Yury Dolgoruky Presented to Navy for Commission

29.10.2012 Lead Borei-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Yury Dolgoruky has finished state acceptance trials and is presented to Russian Navy for commission, director general of Rubin Design Bureau Igor Vilnit told ARMS-TASS at the 23-rd international exhibition Euronaval-2012.

"We have completed construction and state trials of the sub. The Navy has no claims over the trials. Now the submarine is presented to the orderer for further commission", said the head of Rubin bureau.

"The second Borei-class submarine, Alexander Nevsky is currently completing state trials. The sub will be ready for delivery this year", he added.

SSBN Yury Dolgoruky was laid down at Sevmash shipyard in 1996. The project designed by the Rubin bureau (St. Petersburg) contained latest achievements in shipborne radioelectronics and underwater silence. Basic weapon is 16 solid-propellant ballistic missiles R-30 Bulava (flight range over 8,000 km; multiple independently targeted reentry vehicles). Borei-class submarines are equipped with surfacing rescue chamber accommodating the entire crew. Length is 170 meters, beam is 13.5 meters, test depth is 450 meters, crew is 107 men.
