Officers of the newest Borei-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Alexander Nevsky were triumphantly admitted as members of the Saint Petersburg Submariners' Club on Dec 8, the club's chairman Capt 1 Rank Igor Kurdin told Central Navy Portal.
The ceremony was held on Dec 8, the club's foundation day, and took place in the Marble Hall of the Ethnographic Museum.
Leadership of the club took the opportunity and invited the sub's crewmembers to its birthday. Admittance of new members is annual tradition of the club. In this year, they are seven officers of SSBN Alexander Nevsky led by the sub's commanding officer Capt 1 Rank Dmitry V. Nesterov. Known navy-oriented novelist Alexander Pokrovsky presented his autographed books to the new members.
According to Igor Kurdin, none of candidates has declined the club's membership throughout 18 years. Its community is constantly growing up, and now it comprises over 3,000 members.
Project 955 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Alexander Nevsky is the second sub in Borei series. She is being currently completed in Severodvinsk, and the crew is passing training in the Sosnovy Bor Naval Training Center.
