Vyacheslav Popov, the former commander of the Northern Fleet, believes that the UN should come out with an initiative to liquidate the NATO block.
NATO needs to be liquidated and the UN should raise this question. In my opinion, NATO - is a thing of the past, as it is a block system, and after the break-up of the Warsaw pact and the promises made by the alliance to not expand to the East, this block system has outlived itself. Today, the time has come to work on a system of European security.
This was the opinion expressed by the chairman of the Northern Fleet committee on the national maritime policy, a Federation Council representative of the legislative branch of the government of the Murmansk region, Vyacheslav Popov.
What's most important for Russia in its relationship with the alliance is the assertion of its own policy, the way that it's happening right now. Our future actions should be based upon reality, truth, moral principles and protection of our national interests, emphasised the former commander of the Northern Fleet.
