Somali pirate Jama Ibrahim who had been brought to trial for attacking USS Ashland admitted guilt, explaining that he mixed up warship with merchant vessel.

Unusual confession was made in the court of Norfolk, VA. Admission of his guilt may reduce the term of imprisonment to 30 years.

It was Norfolk's first piracy-related conviction in 150 years. "Modern-day pirates must be held accountable", said Neil MacBride, prosecutor.

Ibrahim is one of a six-man gang accused of attacking USS Ashland on Apr 10, 2010 in the Gulf of Aden and brought to the US for proceedings. They were exculpated as for piracy a while ago in Aug, although other accusations are still in action. The verdict will be read on Nov 29.

Meanwhile, Washington court accused Ibrahim for attack on commercial vessel Future in the Gulf of Aden. Experts say he would admit guilt of that case, too.
