Ukraine has become a participant of EU NAVFOR – Operation Atalanta being held against Somali pirates, reported representative of Ukrainian foreign ministry Igor Sagach.

According to him, a Ukrainian officer soon will enter upon his duties at Atalanta headquarters in Northwood, UK. Igor Sagach Underlined that Ukraine seeks for other possibilities to assist the operation, including deployment of marine unit on board one of warships participated in Atalanta.

We recall that three multinational naval coalitions are currently countering piracy off Somalia. They are EU NAVFOR – Operation Atalanta, NATO Operation Ocean Shield, and US-led joint naval operation.
