Turkish frigate entered Greek territorial waters in the Aegean Sea without permission, reported Greek defense ministry.
According to the ministry, the frigate passed through the Dardanelles strait and, moving southward, left international waters and entered Greek territory between Skyros and Euboea islands in western part of the Aegean Sea. Having spent about 45 minutes within Greek territorial waters, Turkish warship again headed for international zone, said Greek military officials.
There are controversies between Greece and Turkey, in particular related to boundary settlement in the Aegean Sea. Greece recognizes only shelf demarcation problem, while Turkey consider air-and-sea boundary issue has not been completely settled either, as well as assignment of responsibility zones.
Throughout decades the two countries were on the precipice of war many times, but in recent years their political relations have been considerably improved.
