Today Somali pirates released Thai cargo ship with 27 sailors on board. Pirates' spokesman said they had got $5 mln ransom for cargo ship Thor Nexus, reports Radio Liberty referring to Reuters.

In addition, online Somalia Report dealing with piracy problems also confirmed this information.

Currently, the ship is heading for Mombasa port, Kenya.

According to Vesti, Somali pirates captured the Thai-flagged cargo ship in the Arab Sea far back in Dec 2010. On board Thor Nexus were 27 crewmembers, all Thai sailors. As was reported, the ship was sailing from United Arab Emirates to Bangladesh. The pirates attacked the ship 600 km off Omani port of Salalah.

Recall that the UN Security Council recently decreed to urgently establish a special judicial instance prosecuting persons suspect for piracy in the region. According to Rosbalt, that was stated in unanimously approved UN resolution adopted by initiative of Russian delegation.

Possible establishment of exterritorial special court for piracy cases in Somali was also stipulated in the document.

The resolution calls all countries to legally provide criminal responsibility for piracy and consider the possibility of court actions against sea robbers.
