Radiation leak occurred in nuclear-powered submarine moored in Dalian, northeast China on July 29, reports information portal Boxum.com referring to a source in People's Liberation Army of China. Beijing has not given official confirmation so far.
According to Boxum.com, the accident happened during installation of new electronic equipment in one of the sub's compartments.
Chinese military blocked the accident area at once, so the situation seems very hazardous, comments Chinese pilot Mamoru Sato in his blog.
According to various estimates, Chinese Navy currently operates up to 70 submarines including four Jin-class and one Xia-class SSBNs, four Han-class and four Shang-class SSNs.
