Greece: cargo ship Red Sea Spirit is not captured

Pirates did not hijack Panama-flagged vessel Red Sea Spirit belonging to Greek company Secure Hold, said Sunday representative of Greek Coast Guard to RIA Novosti.

As Reuters had previously informed referring to Kenyan officials, the ship was captured Thursday near Yemen coast.

"We reached the shipowners and they affirmed pirates had tried to capture the vessel at Monday night (Nov 16), but their attempt had been averted", said the interviewee.

"Two boats tried to attack the ship, but it managed to escape by maneuvering. Now the vessel is standing on", said the source.

According to Greek authorities, cargo ship Red Sea Spirit is sailing from Aden to Karachi (Pakistan) with the cargo of cement; the complement is 21, all are Filipinos. Nobody suffered.
