Somali pirates have seized the Taiwanese fishing vessel Tai Yuan-227 with a crew of 28 people on board, among them are nine Chinese, three Vietnamese, three Filipinos, 7 Kenyans and 2 citizens of Mozambique.

This was reported on Tuesday by the press center of the Naval Forces of the European Union, who are leading the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

The seizure of the vessel occurred 700 miles north-east of the Seychelles. At the present time Tai Yuan-227 is en route to the coast of Somalia, the EU and the Taiwan Navy Rescue Center are monitoring the situation.
