Big passenger ship sinks in Peru

26.05.2010 A big passenger vessel with over 200 passengers on board sank in the Amazon River near Iquitos, Peru. Two naval ships have been working on the emergency site. Dozens of people are saved, only two are dead but more than 100 are still unaccounted for. Rescue teams say up to 40 people are trapped in the sunken ship on the bottom of the river.

Experts believe the overload could be the cause of the tragedy. The official log of the departure states there were 150 passengers whereas eyewitnesses say there could have been as many as 250 people on board.
