Mikhailov: the contract on 3 frigates for India to be executed in 2012

Yantar shipyard (Kaliningrad) will complete the shipbuilding contract on 3 frigates for Indian Navy in 2012, reported RIA Novosti citing Sergei Mikhailov, the head of the yard's press-service.

The shipyard is currently executing the $1 bln contract on three Project 11356 frigates for Indian Navy signed in 2007.

"The first frigate, INS Teg (stands for Saber) will be delivered to the orderer in mid-2011", Mikhailov said.

As for him, the further ships will be delivered every half year.

"Thereafter, the two subsequent frigates INS Tarkash (Quiver) and INS Trikand (Bow) are to be handed over to India in 2011-2012", reported Yantar's press secretary.

Indian Navy has already received three ships of this project in 2004 – INS Talwar, INS Trishul, and INS Tabar.

Full displacement of Project 11356 frigates is up to 3,850 tons; speed is up to 32 knots; endurance is 30 days; crew is 190 (22 commissioned). Armament includes 100-mm gun mount A-190E, mid-range SAM system Shtil-1, two combat modules of Kashtan shipborne antiaircraft missile/gun system, eight Igla MANPADS, two DTA-53-11356 coupled torpedo tubes, RBU-6000 ASW rocket launcher; permanent basing of ASW helicopter is optional.
