Nuclear cruisers to face upgrade
Russian competent authorities decided to rebuild decommissioned Kirov-class heavy nuclear-powered missile cruisers. Admiral Ushakov (Northern Fleet) and Admiral Nakhimov (Pacific Fleet) will remain in operational force of Russian Navy after appropriate modernization.

Captors of Russian tanker were let off at sea
Pirates who had hijacked Russian tanker Moscow University were disarmed, put on inflatable boat and set free. There are no legal rules for court action against pirates acting off Somalia, so "they do not fall within jurisdiction of any country and international law either".

Crew of US warship to attend the Victory Day Parade in Vladivostok
American naval servicemen will participate in military parade associated with 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War to be held in Vladivostok. Command ship USS Blue Ridge moored Friday in Vladivostok downtown, opposite Pacific Fleet HQ.

Tanker release operation lasted 22 min only
Release operation of tanker Moscow University lasted only 22 minutes and was destined to success due to surprise effect. The tanker release operation was performed Thursday morning by the crew of large ASW ship Marshal Shaposhnikov.

Pomor-2010 exercise planning conference was held at Northern Fleet
A two-day planning conference of joint Russo-Norwegian naval exercise Pomor-2010 was held on board large ASW ship Severomorsk. The exercise will be carried in waters of the Norwegian and the Barents seas in June 4-15.

Marines assaulted the captured tanker by fast-speed boats
Boarding on tanker Moscow University was carried by antiterror team using fast-speed boats. Small and large-caliber arms, grenade launchers, and climbing equipment (rope ladders and grapplings) were taken away from arrested pirates.

Prior to antipiracy mission, marines practiced hostage rescue
Pacific Fleet (PF) marines who along with the crew of large ASW ship Marshal Shaposhnikov freed Russian tanker Moscow University captured by pirates had passed thorough special training in Vladivostok before anti-piracy mission off Somalia.

Russia, Ukraine consider integration of two large Ukrainian shipyards into USC
Two large Ukrainian shipbuilding companies can be integrated into Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). Both of them are state-owned enterprises and have some problems with orders. Without Ukraine Russian shipbuilding industry would experience real challenges.

Black Sea Fleet (BSF) large landing ship Yamal Tuesday morning overturned Ukrainian tug Bugsky at fairway of Dnepro-Bugsky estuary while calling at Ukrainian port of Nikolayev. That was not fault of Yamal's commander.

French admiral to visit Northern Fleet
French Navy's official delegation headed by Vice Admiral d'Escadre Anne-Francois de Saint Salvy will arrive to Northern Fleet (NF) on May 8. French admiral will meet with NF Commander on board French frigate Latouche-Treville which is going to call at Severomorsk the day before.

New patrol craft built for Kazakhstan was launched
A new warship built on order of Kazakhstan Frontier Service by Ural shipyard Zenit has been recently launched. The vessel named Zhenis [Victory] has displacement of 270 tons. Her introduction into service is occasional to 65th anniversary of the Great Victory.

This morning Black Sea Fleet (BSF) large landing ship Caesar Kunikov moored at Odessa passenger port. The ship is paying friendly visit; 82 BSF marines will participate in military parade in Odessa, Ukraine on May 9. Russian mariners will stay in Odessa till May 11.
