AS-31


AS-31 is a Project 10831 nuclear-powered 1-st rank deep-sea submersible not carrying arms and capable to dive down to 1,000 meters (according to some sources, even down to 6,000 meters).

CONSTRUCTION

The submersible was laid down on July 16, 1990 at Sevmash shipyard (Severodvinsk); launched on August 26, 1995; commissioned into Northern Fleet in 1997.

MILESTONES

Late in September 2012, the submersible took part in the Arktika-2012 research expedition sampling sea bottom at the depth of 2.5-3 km throughout 20 days.

The submersible AS-31 is carried by Project 09786 special-purpose submarine BS-136 Orenburg.
