B-800 Kaluga is a Project 877LPMB diesel submarine.

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The sub was laid down on March 5, 1987 at Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard (Nizhniy Novgorod) and launched on May 7, 1989. In the same year the sub was commissioned into Soviet Navy. In 1991 she joined Northern Fleet. The sub obtained current name of Kaluga in May 2003 when a patronage agreement with Kaluga city administration was signed.

MILESTONES

In Apr 2-9, 1990 the sub took part in joint naval exercise of Soviet, Bulgarian and Romanian navies.

On Oct 14, 1994 she won Navy Commander's Prize "for best torpedo firing".
