K-132 Irkutsk

K-132 Irkutsk is a Project 949A Antei nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN).

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The submarine was laid down on May 8, 1985 at Sevmash shipyard (Severodvinsk); launched on December 29 (or 27), 1987; commissioned into Northern Fleet on October 31, 1989 under the name of K-132; transferred to Pacific Fleet on October 29, 1990. The sub obtained the name of Irkutsk on April 6, 1993 when she was taken under patronage by Irkutsk city administration.

MILESTONES

Since Sept 27 till Aug 30, 1990 the sub carried out under-ice transarctic interfleet cruise from Zapadnaya Litsa (Northern Fleet) to Krasheninnikov Bay (Pacific Fleet), for the first time in Russian Navy history.

In 1992 the sub performed double-missile launch of Granit cruise missiles (firstly in Pacific Fleet) and won the Navy Commander's Prize for missile firing.

On May 23, 1996 the sub along with K-456 launched a cruise missile against sea target, for the first time in the Russian Navy's history, and won the Navy Commander's Prize for missile firing against sea target.

At present, the sub is under repairs at Zvezda shipyard (Bolshoi Kamen, Primorsky Krai).
