K-407 Novomoskovsk is Project 667BDRM Delfin nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN).

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The submarine was laid down on June 14, 1987 at Sevmash shipyard (Severodvinsk) under the name of K-407; launched on February 28, 1990; commissioned into Northern Fleet on December 29, 1990. The sub obtained the name of Novomoskovsk on July 19, 1997 when Novomoskovsk district administration (Tula region) took her under patronage.

MILESTONES

On Aug 6, 1991 the sub launched full load, firstly in Soviet/Russian Navy's history.

In 1991 the sub won the Navy Commander's Prize for missile firing.

On March 20, 1993 the sub collided with American submarine USS Grayling which attempted to conduct secret trailing in the Barents Sea. K-407 was repaired; USS Grayling was decomissioned. Nobody suffered.

On July 15, 1996 the sub along with K-447 performed group ballistic missile launch against coastal target, firstly in Soviet/Russian Navy's history.

On July 7, 1998 the sub launched German micro-satellites Tubsat-N and Tubsat-N1 to low earth orbit from the Barents Sea. It was the first time in the world's history of astronautics when space vehicles were launched from seagoing launching platform in submerged position. Orbital launching of commercial cargo was performed by a submarine for the first time. Northern Fleet made over $100,000 for the satellites launch.

On Dec 7, 2000 the sub successfully launched ballistic missile R-29RMU in the Barents Sea.

On Feb 16, 2001 the sub conducted successful underwater launch of ballistic missile in the Barents Sea.

In Jan-July 2003 the sub was under supporting repair at Zvezdochka shipyard (Severodvinsk).

On Jan 17, 2004 the sub wreck the launch of two ballistic missiles RSM-54 Sineva because of the crew's fault.

On March 17, 2004 the sub successfully carried out underwater launch of two ballistic missiles RSM-54 Sineva in the Barents Sea.

In Nov 2008 the sub arrived to Zvezdochka shipyard (Severodvinsk) for interim overhaul and modernization.
