Yamal is a Project 775 Large Landing Ship (LLS)

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The ship was built in Gdansk (Poland) in 1987; commissioned 1988. Initially, it was named BDK-67; on January 3, 2002 the ship was renamed into Yamal as in June 2001 administration of Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Region (Russian Federation) took patronage over the ship.

MILESTONES

In 1997 the ship took part in international exercise Peace Fairway – 97

In 1998 it participated in international exercise Sea Breeze – 98

In 1999 the ship transported Russian peacekeepers to Salonika (Greece)

In 2000 it took part in withdrawal of military hardware from Georgia

In June 2003 being a part of BSF task unit, the ship paid an official call at Port Said (Egypt)

In October 2003 it visited Greek island Corfu

In October 2008 the ship visited Greek ports Corfu, Suda, Pilos, Piraeus
