Launching ceremony of Project 22350 frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov was held today at 1.30 pm at Severnaya Verf shipyard (St. Petersburg).

The ship was named after eminent organizer and theorist of naval art, the founder of Soviet ocean-going nuclear-missile fleet Admiral of Soviet Navy Sergei G. Gorshkov. Under his direction, over a thousand of Soviet warships became an important tool of national foreign policy.

Frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov was laid down at Severnaya Verf shipyard in 2006. At present, main mechanical equipment and systems providing safe launching has been installed, including combined diesel and gas turbine (CODAG) powerplant, geared aggregates, tail shafts and screws, and electric power supply facilities. Further works will be performed at the shipyard's fitting quay.

Project 22350 frigate is designed for combat operations in littoral, distant sea and ocean zones. Displacement is about 4,500 tons, extreme length is over 130 meters, extreme beam is over 16 meters, fuel range is over 4,000 nautical miles, navigability is not limited. Shipborne helicopter is also provided. The project was developed by Severnoye Design Bureau.
