Russian Marine Corps was established 306 years ago. Peter the Great issued a decree ordering to form the first Russian "regiment of marine soldiers" on Nov 27 (16), 1705. Since that time, "black berets" have become the symbol of courage, fearlessness and bravery.
Parade and meeting attended by Pacific Fleet (PF) command, veterans, marines, representatives of public organizations and patriotic clubs will take place on Nov 27 at 10 am in Vladivostok at PF Marine Brigade near the Marines Memorial. Visitors will watch demonstration drills, combat vehicles and equipment; veterans will taste "naval meals".
Marines have added many glorious chapters to the history of Russia and are deservedly considered elite of our armed forces.
Highest military proficiency, unselfish patriotism, power and courage are essential attributes of any who chose marine service. Today, marines preserve and continue centuries-old Russian military traditions.
At present, PF black berets are based in Primorsky Krai and Kamchatka; they are regular participants of all naval exercises held by the fleet.
Only since Dec 2008, PF marines have attended five missions in the Gulf of Aden and are holding combat service off Somalia now.
