Destroyer Admiral Chabanenko Got Ready for Pomor 2012 Exercise
03.05.2012
Through the last week in the Barents Sea, the ship's crew practiced some episodes of the coming joint exercise. In particular, search operations with marines, interception of small-size fast-speed craft, detention and examination of a ship suspected of piracy, etc. Aircrews of Ka-27PS helicopters improved their deck landing skills and practiced search and rescue of sailors in distress.
When at sea, destroyer Admiral Chabanenko in cooperation with antisubmarine airplanes Il-38 and deck-based fighters Su-33 performed air defense tasks, found and destroyed "enemy" submarine.
The Pomor exercise is the key element of cooperation between Russia and Norway; it contributes to development of good-neighborly relations and keeps the two navies ready to conduct joint naval operations in economically important regions of the Arctic Ocean.
The exercise is conducted on the regular basis since 2010. This year it will take place in the Barents and Norwegian seas in May 11-16.
