Participants of the Pomor and the Northern Eagle joint naval exercises met on board Norwegian offshore patrol frigate Nordkapp called at Russian Northern Fleet (NF) main naval base Severomorsk. The parties agreed upon the further joint training activities.

The agreement was signed by representatives of Russian, Norwegian, and US navies at the final conference closing the Northern Eagle 2012 trilateral naval exercise. It finished on Aug 25 with the call of American destroyer USS Farragut and Norwegian offshore patrol frigate Nordkapp at Severomorsk.

According to the achieved agreements, Russian and Norwegian navies having common interests in the Arctic will cooperate at the next Pomor-2013 joint exercise. The US Navy along with Russian and Norwegian mariners will hold the Northern Eagle 2014 exercise.

Joint naval exercises Pomor and Northern Eagle are conducted in order to practice interoperability amid Russian, Norwegian, and US warships. Basic objectives are to counter terrorism and arms trafficking, jointly assist ships in distress, and hold rescue operations directed by coordination centers in Murmansk, Russia and Bodø, Norway.
