French company Sagem (group Safran) will deliver infrared search-and-targeting systems Vampir NG for two Mistral-class amphibious assault ships built in France for Russian Navy.

Sagem received that contract from DCNS which is the main contractor for construction of the Mistral ships, a spokesman for Sagem told ARMS-TASS.

"The first optronic system will be delivered in 2013, the second one – in 6 months. Our experts have started working on the Russian order", said the Sagem representative.

The extra-long-range Vampir NG infrared search and track system provides surface warships with passive all-around panoramic surveillance, automatic detection, tracking and warning about various threats, beginning from antiship missiles with low trajectory and ending with attacking fast-speed ships.

The system has two operating modes. The first is 'oceanic' one used for long-range surveillance in the high sea, and the second is 'littoral' one used for nearshore waters.

At present, this system is mounted on different ships of French, Italian, South Korean, and Australian navies.
