Russian sailors onboard cargo ship Myre Seadiver detained off Nigeria almost one month ago are to be let free soon; however, Nigerian authorities do not set certain dates.
"They don't tell us when we can continue the voyage. They only say that negotiations are in progress, and we will be let free soon", said one of the sailors.
The crewmen remain onboard the detained ship which was towed to a Nigerian naval station.
According to
Interfax, the ship is regularly visited by Russian diplomats. They support the sailors while Nigerian officials come to inquire about the crew's health very seldom. The ship's operator
Moran Security Group timely supplies the Russian sailors with food and water. "We're okay. They bring us water, food, and whatever we need. We get wages on time and regularly contact our families by phone and via Internet", said one of the sailors.
Recall that the Russian crew of tug ship
Bourbon Liberty 249 earlier captured by Nigerian pirates returned to St. Petersburg on Nov 12. The ship was supplying drilling platforms off southern Nigeria. According to Russian embassy in Nigeria, nobody suffered during assault. No details of the incident are reported.
The Russian-crewed ship
Myre Seadiver with 15 sailors onboard was detained in Lagos port on Oct 19. As for Nigerian media, there were fourteen AK-47 automatic rifles, 42 rifles and over 8,500 pieces of ammunition. Now the ship is moored at one of Nigerian naval stations.
