Launching ceremony of research ship Yantar being built in Kaliningrad for Russian Navy will be held on Dec 5, a source in shipbuilding industry told Central Navy Portal.

Project 22010 oceanographic research ship Yantar was laid down in July 2010. It was initially planned to put the ship afloat in mid Nov 2012, but due to delays in construction the deadline was postponed.

As for now, central switchboard was mounted on the ship; electrical installation works have been partially completed. The research ship Yantar was laid down on the 65-th anniversary of JSC Yantar Shipyard (Kaliningrad, Russia) and was named in the shipyard's honor. She is the largest ship currently built at the yard.

The ship was painted in mid Nov; works on stretching cable lines, planting of fittings and various mechanisms are in progress. About 150 shipwrights and representatives of contracting parties are working day and night to prepare the ship for launching.

"Such specific ship is unusual for the shipyard, so the building process goes behind the schedule. Moreover, there are some frustrations in delivery of associated equipment", a source in United Shipbuilding Corporation told Central Navy Portal. "It is planned to begin dockside trials in the coming summer, and then to hold sea trials. If everything is okay, the ship would be possibly handed over to defense ministry by the year end", the source added.
