Baltic Fleet sailors discuss Neustrashimy’s mission in Gulf of Aden in teleconference

Representatives of the Baltic Fleet took part in a teleconference organized by the Modern Academy for Humanities to discuss the problems of security and the fight against piracy - the participation of the Russian Navy - in international sea navigation.

The conference was attended by the president of the Modern Academy for Humanities, Professor Valery Tarakanov; the head of ship security at the Naval Security Service of the Russian Transport Ministry, Artyom Alyabiev; and other interested parties. The subject was discussed live by all participants via satellite television. The participants shared opinions about the measures adopted by the international community to fight the scourge.

The Baltic Fleet was represented at the conference by the commander of the underwater ships of the Baltic Fleet, Captain First Class Oleg Gurinov, who was the senior officer on the Neustrashimy during its mission in the region of the Horn of Africa; the commander of the Neustrashimy, Captain 2nd Class Alexei Apanovich; and other members of the crew. They talked about their involvement in providing security in the Gulf of Eden for Russian and foreign civilian ships, the tactical actions of the pirates, and the measures being taken by the international community to fight piracy.

Besides the seamen of the Baltic Fleet, the conference was attended by students of the Baltic Naval Institute named after Admiral F.F. Ushakov, students of the Kaliningrad branch of the Modern Academy for Humanities, and seniors of a local high school.
