Zvezdochka to hand over BMSNP Novomoskovsk to Navy in 2011
08.10.2009 OJSC Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center (Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region) plans to hand over BMSNP K-407 Novomoskovsk of Project 667BDRM (Delta-IV under NATO classification) after interim overhaul and modernization to the Navy in 2011, said PRIME-TASS referring to Vladimir Nikitin, shipyard's Director General.
Submarine's performance characteristics will be significantly improved and missile system will be replaced in the course of modernization.
"With delivery of Novomoskovsk we will finish the cycle of interim overhauls and upgrade of this project submarines", said V. Nikitin.
Overhaul of BMSNP (ballistic missile submarine, nuclear propulsion) Novomoskovsk started in 2008. Before that Zvezdochka performed interim overhauls and upgrade of submarine cruisers of Project 667BDRM K-51 Verkhoturye (1999), K-84 Yekaterinburg (2003), K-114 Tula (2006), K-117 Bryansk (2008). The repair of K-18 Kareliya will be completed in 2009.
Submarine cruiser K-407 was constructed in Severodvinsk in 1990. K-407 had become the seventh and the last sub cruiser of that type built in 1984-1990. Strategic missile submarine cruisers of Project 667BRDM are the basis of Russian naval strategic nuclear forces. Up-top displacement of the BMSNP is 11 740 t and submerged displacement is 18 200 t. Submerged speed is 26 knots, submergence depth is up to 400 m.
Armament of BMSNP comprises sixteen SLBMs (submarine launched ballistic missile) and four 533-mm torpedo tubes. Crew is 135 men. All subs of Project 667BRDM are in service at Northern Fleet.
