San Francisco to celebrate Russian Navy Day annually 23.06.2010

Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco declared June 22 as a Russian Navy Day in San Francisco. Russian national flag was hoisted above the city hall.

The colors-making ceremony was attended by Charlotte Schulz, Chief of Protocol for the State of California (wife of George P. Shultz, former Secretary of State) and Rear Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov, Russia's Pacific Fleet.

Among other participants were Vladimir Vinokurov, Russian Consul General to San Francisco, American and Russian naval servicemen including Capt 1 rank Eduard Moskalenko, commanding officer of cruiser Varyag which pays friendly visit to San Francisco.

Mayor Newsom underlined in his special decree that the decision to establish Russian Navy Day in San Francisco pursued an aim to strengthen ties between San Francisco and Russian people and, by this, contribute to improvement of relations between the US and Russia, reports ITAR-TASS.
