Naval ships of Russian Black Sea Fleet were used by mistake instead of American ones as a background image at the US Democratic Party Convention held on Sept 6, reports The Navy Times.

The picture was a background for patriotic speech of ADM (ret) John Nathman. The mistake was noted by Rob Barker who dismissed from the US Navy in 2006. During naval service, Barker used to identify foreign warships by appearance of their radars. He recognized the nearest ship on the photo as Kerch.

Navy-oriented writer Norman Polmar examined the photos in high resolution and confirmed the ships were Russian. Expert in warships Eric Wertheim identified one of the ships as Smetlivy and affirmed Barker's guess about Kerch.

The "X" sign is also seen on the photo. Experts say it can be St. Andrew's Cross, the symbol of Russian Navy. In contrast, US naval ensign is American national flag.

The US Democratic Party convened in Sept 4-6 in North Carolina and officially slated acting president Barak Obama for the second presidency.
