Baltic Fleet (BF) large landing ship Kaliningrad will take part in festivities associated with 65th anniversary of the Victory to be held in Polish port of Swinoustie; the ship will pay an informal visit in May 5-10, reports RIA Novosti referring to BF Press Service.

The Russian warship built in Poland will bring veterans who had served in Swinoustie in the period of 1945-1992, including ex-governor of Kaliningrad region Admiral Vladimir Egorov.

During the visit Russian guests are going to meet with Polish mariners, and lay wreaths at the Polish memorial and monument to Soviet warriors fallen during WW2 in the territory of Poland. Locals and guests of Swinoustie will be allowed to visit Kaliningrad.

The cruise is going to be headed by Capt 1 rank Vladimir Sokolov, BF surface ships division commander.

Warships of Soviet/Russian Baltic Fleet had been based, repaired and maintained at naval base Swinoustie since postwar years till early 90's, informs RIA Novosti.

Kaliningrad is a Project 775 large landing ship.

CONSTRUCTION, NAME

The ship was laid down in Gdansk (Poland) on May 31, 1984.

MILESTONES

In 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 the ship took part in BALTOPS international naval exercise

In 2006 the ship was deployed in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, having visited ports of Tunis, Algeria, Spain and Portugal.

On June 17, 2009 the ship was on station and paid calls at German port Kiel and Dutch port Den Helder.
