After almost 10-year long repair, Ukraine's only submarine Zaporizhzhia will be commissioned into the national navy in spring 2011, said RADM Yury Ilyin, Ukrainian Navy Deputy Commander.

Submarine Zaporizhzhia was launched in 1970 in Leningrad. Ukraine got this sub after dividing of Soviet Black Sea Fleet. The submarine has been under repair since 1991.

"Zaporizhzhia is expected to join Ukrainian Navy in May 2011 ", reported press-service of Ukrainian defense ministry citing Ilyin.

According to him, the sub will start mooring trials no later than in Dec 2010, and sea trials – in May 2011. Afterwards, the submarine will be commissioned into Ukrainian Navy.

In Oct 2010 four officers of Zaporizhzhia were trained at Russia's Black Sea Fleet submarine Alrosa. They had a chance to take the sea and attend Black Sea Fleet exercise.
