Ukrainian Navy's command ship Donbass took the sea to conduct first phase of trials after overhaul, reports official web-site of Ukrainian defense ministry.

Mainly, the ship's electromechanical equipment was repaired in Nov-Dec 2010. Test sailing was preceded by mooring trials; main propulsion plant, diesel generators, engine service systems, steering gear, grounding gears, radioelectronic and communication equipment were tested directly at sea.

"The trials showed that technical condition of electromechanical equipment allows to operate the ship effectively", report Ukrainian mariners.

During the sea trials, an interaction drill was held with ASW helicopter Ka-27PCh in order to test underway control over antisubmarine aviation.

As was reported by New Region, Ukraine had planned to put command ship Donbass into operation as early as in 2008. Donbass is a former Soviet floating workshop built in 1970 and retrofitted into "floating headquarters" after splitting of Soviet Black Sea Fleet.

In Dec 2004 a fire broke out on command ship Donbass which was under repair at Sevmorzavod shipyard in Sevastopol. The fire destroyed 50 sq meters of the top deck.
