Chinese military delegation headed by Chief of General Staff Gen. Col. Chen Bingde started the visit to Ukraine.
Visiting Sevastopol, members of the delegation met with Ukrainian Navy Commander Admiral Viktor Maksimov, his deputy Vice Admiral Sergei Yeliseyev and Chief of Navy HQ Rear Admiral Yury Ilyin, reports UNIAN referring to Ukrainian defense ministry's press service.
During the meeting, parties exchanged views on development of military cooperation between navies of the two countries.
"Our military cooperation with People's Republic of China began in 2002", pointed out Admiral Maksimov. "Chinese warship called at Sevastopol for the first time then. Later on, three Chinese cadets used to study in the Nakhimov Naval Academy. And Chinese servicemen once sailed the sea on our landing ship Donetsk", he noted.
The admiral recalled his visit to China in 2009.
Gen. Col. Chen Bingde emphasized that Chinese and Ukrainian armed forces have great prospects for cooperation, taking into account considerable capabilities of defense industry.
During the visit to Sevastopol, the Chinese delegation visited large landing ship Konstantin Olshansky.
