Through two and half months UAH 144,000 have been donated for construction of a corvette – new warship for Ukrainian Navy, reported Capt 1 rank Vadim Makhno at the press conference in Kiev.

"We managed to gather UAH 144,000 donations in Sevastopol during two and half months…Ukrainian defense minister placed his month's pay to the corvette building fund", he said.

Rear Admiral Viktor Makarov explained that the government lacks money to finance construction of the corvette.

"According to president Yanukovich, unfortunately, today Ukraine is short of funds to implement such large-scale project as the corvette building", said the admiral.

Recall that the corvette named Vladimir Veliky is supposed to join Ukrainian Navy in 2016. The keel-laying ceremony of the Project 58250 corvette was held at Chernomorsky Shipyard (Nikolayev, Ukraine) on May 17, 2011. As is expected, corvette Vladimir Veliky would be delivered in 2016, and other three ships of this kind are to join Ukrainian Navy till 2021.
