Ukrainian Navy Holds Adequate Reaction 2011 Exercise 20.09.2011

Ukrainian Navy's attack group and battalion task force conducted firing drills at sea- and coastal targets at Opuk Range.

The drills were held on Sept 19 under second phase of the Adequate Reaction 2011 exercise. Frigate Getman Sagaidachny and corvette Pridneprovye conducted firing at sea surface targets; the coastal ones were fired by armored personnel carriers, tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and howitzers of Coast Defense Center. Later on that day, participants carried out airborne assault operation.

Tactical drill in surface monitoring was held at the same time at sea.

Also, on Monday 9 ships of Ukrainian Navy maintained flights of Ukrainian Air Force's fighter aviation and blocked assigned water area; air crews practiced launching of air-to-air missiles.

Attending the exercise, Ukrainian Navy Commander Admiral Viktor Maksimov gave high appreciation to crews of ships and personnel of battalion task force; also, he sanctioned participation of mentioned forces in further drills under the Adequate Reaction 2011 exercise.
